Webster's 1828 Dictionary
1828 is an iPhone application which allows the user to look up words in the Webster's 1828
edition of the American Dictionary of the English Language. This dictionary is unique in
its authorship and the historical context in which it was written. It is an excellent tool
for Bible study, or for anyone wishing to gain an understanding of the historical usage of
words in the English language.
The 1828 app started out as a project for my personal use. I have used the 1828 dictionary
on other platforms (windows, web, mac, etc.) for years. I searched in vain for an iPhone
app for the 1828 dictionary, so I decided to write one. I had not originally planned to
make the app publicly available. However, several folks suggested to me that it would be
a useful tool for others. Therefore, I cleaned it up a bit and submitted it to the app store.
Given the background, please consider that this app is a functional tool. It serves a specific
purpose, but is not very pretty. I am willing to consider suggestions as to how the interface
might be improved, or what additional features might make the app more useful. I will consider
suggestions and answer questions as time allows. Please understand that this app is a
hobby, and not a primary business venture. If you would like to send comments, questions, or
suggestions, please email
